About
My name is Ida Albertine Aas, and my journey with this incredible breed began more than 20 years ago when I first met a friend's Australian Shepherd, Balto. I was immediately captivated by his intelligence, energy, and loyalty, and knew that this was the breed for me.
In 2017 I got my own Aussie, a mismarked but beautiful puppy named Jackson. He turned out to be a strong-willed dog with plenty of opinions. Our family grew by four paws in 2020 when we welcomed Kenya, whose loving nature seemed like the perfect balance for Jackson. Then, two years later, we added another family member, Malawi, all the way from France. Malawi is always full of smiles and has quickly become my loyal shadow, always making sure I am all right.
Before I had the joy of owning dogs, travelling was my greatest passion, and I have had the privilege of visiting more than seventy countries. Now, with my dogs by my side, I have found a wonderful way to combine my love for adventure with my passion for dogs. Over the past year, most of our travels have been abroad for dog shows. Along the way, I have met so many wonderful people who share a deep love for the breed and for dog shows. I have made lasting friendships that I truly cherish. I have travelled both on my own and with friends from home, creating memories that will last a lifetime. What warms my heart the most is the way we can cheer each other on and celebrate each other's successes across borders.
Our everyday activities include walks, outdoor gatherings with other Aussie friends, bikejoring, skijoring, and sledding with our "kick-spark." We also do weight pulling with chains to help build muscle strength for the dogs. When needed, the dogs receive physical therapy to ensure they are at their physical best.
My dogs are valued family members, and they live with me for life. They are an integral part of my daily routine, always by my side, whether I am at home or on the road. My work primarily keeps me in the office, but it also gives me the opportunity to work from home on some days. While I am at the office, the dogs are home alone, but I truly enjoy the days I can work from home and have their company. They live inside the house, sharing my space and my life. Their companionship and presence bring so much joy, and I believe they deserve to be part of everything I do.
I am actively involved in the Australian Shepherd community in Norway, having previously served as the secretary and leader of the Australian Shepherd Club of Norway. Currently, I’m in my second year as the vice-accountant for the club, continuing to contribute to its growth and development.
Why Mapleheart?
I chose the name Mapleheart because it holds deep personal significance. I spent my early adult years in Ottawa, Ontario, where the stunning fall colours and iconic maple trees left a lasting impression on me. The maple leaf is a symbol of Canada, and the vibrant hues of autumn are something I’ve always cherished. Fall has always been my favorite season, and the name Mapleheart reflects both my connection to the beautiful landscapes of my past and the love I have for the breed. The heart symbolizes my deep passion for Australian Shepherds, a breed that captures the same warmth and beauty I hold dear.
